A smarter checklist
for healthcare

UX Research ∙ Interaction Design ∙ Visual Design ∙ Usability testing

Introduction

In this project, I redesigned the Safety Checklist for Maastricht UMC+ to improve the user experience and resolve communication issues between hospital staff. The new design makes it easy for nurses, operating room personnel, surgeons, and anesthesiologists to quickly and efficiently complete the checklist without frustration. By addressing pain points like unclear interfaces and slow communication, everything is now clear and accessible in one place. This enhances collaboration between departments and ensures a smoother patient procedure. The new design already provides value and lays the foundation for further improvements.

My role

Responsible for the entire UX process, from user research to prototyping and usability testing. I maintained close contact with stakeholders, including the product manager, developers, and staff from Maastricht UMC+, to further explain the product and ensure it met the needs of both the end users and business objectives.

The team

During the COVID period, I worked mostly remotely but collaborated closely with a core team consisting of a product manager, marketing manager, senior UX Designer, 5 full-stack Developers, account manager and 2 solution architects.

Problem statement

The current Safety Checklist used by Maastricht UMC+ has several pain points, such as inefficient communication between staff and difficulties in using the application, leading to frustration and delays in crucial medical processes. Staff struggle with quickly and effectively completing the checklist, especially under time pressure in the operating room.

How can we ensure that a user-friendly interface is created, allowing staff to quickly and efficiently use the Safety Checklist without complications?
